How should I paint my ceilings...50% lighter or chose the next color down on the paint chip?

Do I need to paint the ceilings 50% lighter than the actually paint color or just chose the next color down? I'm a little confused about what to do. Please help!How should I paint my ceilings...50% lighter or chose the next color down on the paint chip?
Leave the ceilings white. If it needs repainting buy ceiling paint(it's thicker so it won't drip or splatter as much) and paint the ceiling before the walls.


Ceilings are hard to paint and you don't want to be painting them everytime you change your wall color.

I'm not EXACTLY sure but i'm pretty sure you would choice the next color down.
