My son has ADHD. What color should I paint his room that will help with his concentration and temper?

My 8-year old son has a difficult time concentrating, and keeping his room organized. In addition, he has a hard time controlling his impulses and temper. What color should I paint his bedroom that would help him concentrate and relax? My son has ADHD. What color should I paint his room that will help with his concentration and temper?
I have done a lot of color study in school (bach. of interior design) and can tell you that color does make a difference in mood. Each color has its own ';vibration'; and that contributes to its ';feeling.'; An important thing to remember is that the ';eye is not a camera';. It does not see things the same all of the time. Even if you paint a room a certain color, you have to be cautious what color you accent with because this will affect how it is viewed. Some colors will make others ';pop'; and vica versa.

Yellow is a very anxious color, as there is nothing permanent in nature that is yellow. Red is often considered to create passion or emotion, so probably not so great if he has a temper. I agree with most of the answers that blue is a great choice, but beware of teal and tourquois as they are so bright and full of life, it will be a little distracting.

I think that the most important thing you can do for your son is to create an area that is easy for him to organize. He needs adequate and accessable storage. If everything has a place, he won't find it as hard to put items away.

If he feels like he has a say in his room and the way it looks, hopefully he will want to be in it. Try to create a sanctuary for him, so when he feels anxious, agitated or upset, he has a place to go that is his to relax and think things over.My son has ADHD. dark blue. that would be a very good choice.
My son has ADHD also. His room is yellow but I think that a light blue may be soothing. What color does he want to paint his room? That may be more important because he is helping decide.
as a 15 year old student out of north carolina also suffering from adhd i have found that any dark flourish color calms me down i recomend a dark red or blue
the thing is although color is very important and has been proven by science to play a large roll in ones actions and feelings i do believe that the subconscious reaction to a specific color varies from person to person.............with that being said i can offer a few suggestions....what is his favorite color? there are generally positive reactions to one being surrounded by their favorite....blues and greens or any combo there of tend to be tranquil calming colors....although they do say that the brighter the better(starting in infancy very bright colors are wonderful for stimulating activity in the brain)...in my opinion one of the best resources for organizing or at least obtaining a place to start for discovery of what may be best would be a study of feng-shui...although many laugh it is very hard to disprove the positive effects of corelating color and design of space....there are thousands that sware by it and many of those pay big $$ for a person to come in to their home and create this effect........GOOD LUCK IN YOUR QUEST
Paint in shades of lightblue, darkblue n a bit of white to give border
You need to seek help beyond the color of his room. I have a sone with ADHD and work 24 hours a day on teaching him to control his temper and impulses. What you need to know is that you have to spend the time with the child and work like you've never worked before to give him any chance of a normal life.

About the room, the dark blue is probably depressing. Go with with something very simple. Perhaps, very very light blue or white. Children with ADHD need to have order and organization. Using heavy colors or patters can be overwhelming. Simple paint job with simple curtains and well spaced and organized storage units (dressers, toy chests, shelves, etc.) will make his life more simple. Don't rearrange his room if not absolutely necessary and don't add a bunch of wall designs. Keeping it simple allows him to focus of things other than the distration of his room.

Remember to always make him aware of his behavior and let him know when it is not acceptable. Similarly, let him know when his behavior is good by using great amounts of praise and rewards like hugs, certificates or time off from household chores.

This is an 18 year struggle for you, but a lifetime struggle for your child. Help him learn how to deal with this struggle. You will also need to educate nearly every, if not every, teacher he has. Be prepared with documents and plans that will make him successful in school. (Each child needs a different plan.)
a light blue. check around online. certain colors effect your mind different ways, like red and yellow are hunger, green and blue is supposed to be soothing.

heres one site for you. good luck
Do you really think painting his room will help..I don't know..it sounds kinda temporary to me. Kids get bored easily..he'll notice it for about a day and then it will be old news.
My son has ADHD also and I never knew there was a color affect.
in retirement homes they use a soft green or peach . in mental hospitals they use a soft grey to avoid stimulation . my son has a.d.h.d. and i let him pick any colour with out distracting posters or pictures on the walls , and open or easy access to storage is the key . he picked a cool green-blue and he does his homework in his room fine , i also make sure that he puts away his toys before he starts , to avoid further distraction . the key is to teach him to set himself up to succeed . once he is in the habit ,he will do it in other areas of his life . good luck !
I've heard that shades of blue are supposed to be relaxing. Does your son have a favorite color? Maybe you could paint the walls blue and do the trim in his favorite color...that way he gets to help too, and he might enjoy his room more knowing he helped pick the colors.
Light blue has a calming effect and is bright enough not to depress emotions.
green spaces (particularly the outdoors) seem to help lessen symptomology in ADHD children. So I'd assume that green walls would be similar.
Green.
The color of his room doesn't make any friggin difference!!! And we wonder why our kids are all jacked up!! Stop feeding your babies refined sugars (this will stop the mood swings AND prevent type-2 diabetes down the road), processed and steroid/antibiotic inundated 'food'. Stop with the fluoride toothpaste that's destroying his auto-immune system. Giving up the Aluminum-based deodorant (that's know to cause memory failure) isn't a bad idea either.

Bottom Line: Go RAW - you'll get the children you've always wanted.... stop poisoning your babies. DRUGS ARE NOT THE ANSWER UNLESS YOU'RE RAISING DRUG ADDICTS!! Eat real food.
light blue.
